Rydges Rotorua is it worth it?

April 28, 2017

We don’t get away very often so I will be sharing the things we did while we were in Rotorua, how much they cost, showing you how we get the best for our buck.

Rydges Rotorua

The Deal.

Deluxe Spa room kids stay free – including buffet breakfast.
When booking it would not confirm our free breakfasts, I rung Rydges Rotorua directly and she manually edited our booking to include it.
Our arrival

Only one man on check ins, we had to wait for about 10mins, the person in front of us got annoyed and walked out.

We were going to be charged $35 a night extra for a roll out bed or offered a cot for free – regardless of the fact I booked for 2 adults and 3 kids on a kids stay free deal.  So my translation is that there should be no charge for a roll out bed, he argued this fact and I couldn’t be bothered making an issue of it.

The Pool

The pool was out-of-order – nothing on the website indicated this, it says indoor pool on the website booking form,  it was one of the reasons we booked this hotel again.

The Room

Not enough towels, despite our booking saying there were 5 to the room.  There were not enough cups either.
The spa bath was amazing!

The breakfast.

A great selection, but there was a lack of crockery, I wanted cereal and asked a staff member “where are the cereal bowls?” and she said “we have run out” and I replied “how are we supposed to eat our cereal”.. so she went and got more.
I also noticed the condiments running low… when you have kids NO TOMATO SAUCE for the bacon is a real issue.

Our departure.
A huge queue with only 2 staff on checkouts, I’m not an impatient person but it was trying.  There were heaps of Beaurepaires people there and they let me and Jacob go ahead of them and then the receptionist looked at me as though I was rude – it would have been ruder to let my 4year old son scream the lobby down.

My overall rating.

3/5  My issues were minor, if the check in and checkouts weren’t so sloooow and the sleeping/roll out bed issue wasn’t an issue I would have given them a 5/5.
PS THE STAFF ARE LOVELY_ even the breakfast bowl lady 😉

My tips for you if you want to stay at Rydges Rotorua

Register on the website and get a discount and check your confirmation email to ensure all the inclusions (such as breakfast are correct).  There is nothing worse than having to deal with that on arrival – kids in tow.
